Kurosawa was back behind the camera in April 2002. In contrast to the
big-budget studio backing of Pulse, his new film Bright Future is an independent
production. Revolving around a young man who breeds poison jellyfish that are
set free into a river, Bright Future stars man-of-the moment Tadanobu Asano,
Gemini's Ryo, newcomer Joe Odagiri and veteran Tatsuya Fuji (best known for
his work with Nagisa Oshima on In the Realm of the Senses). The ever irritable
Yuji is not very social. His colleague, Mamoru, who always watches over him, is
the only person Yuji could open his heart to. One day, Mamoru is arrested for
killing the president of the factory the two works for, Fujiwara, and his wife.
Mamoru commits suicide in jail, leaving the sign of "Go" which is understood only
by him and Yuji. In front of the confused Yuji appears Shinichiro, Mamoru’s father
who has not seen his son for a while. Although Yuji and Shinichiro belong to
different generations and have different ways of thinking, each of them comes to
see their own future through a jellyfish left by Mamoru.

intrusive reporter looking for a feature story. Then a series of events shake Yamaoka to

Fujiki (Hisashi Igawa), Yamaoka learns that his wife Tomoko (Yuko Tanaka) is slowly
dying from kidney failure. While testing himself as a possible kidney donor, Yamaoka
recalls his courtship with her when she was still a student and utterly in love with a
strapping Korean pilot named Kaneyama (Yukiyoshi Ozawa). Though Yamaoka
married her after his rival's death, she never forgot her first love. Finally, an aging
restaurant owner, whose establishment was a favorite haunt of the suicide pilots, is

In 1988 Misora Hibari performed at a concert called Fushichou konsaato (Phoenix
Concert) at the Tokyo Dome. Against overwhelming pain in her legs, she performed a
total of 39 songs while assuring her fans that she had completely recovered. However,
on 24 May 1989, having been re-admitted to the Juntendou hospital in Tokyo, she died
from interstitial pneumonitis at the age of 52. Her death was widely mourned
throughout Japan. This DVD is the complete edition of Hibari Misora's Tokyo Dome
concert. It comes out as the last part of a series of releases in connection with the 13th
anniversary of the legendary singer's passing away. A must for fans. 39 songs

PERFECT BLUE

It's been five years since Satoshi Kon caused us to sit bold upright in our seats
with the weird yet wonderful Perfect Blue, a bizarre and bloody tale of a former
teen-idol turned actress plagued by a psychotic stalker and plunged into a world
in which the delineation between fantasy and reality rapidly becomes blurred to
the point of incoherence. Those, like myself, who at the time pondered upon the
reasoning behind rendering such a work as an animation are going to be doubly
perplexed by the recent decision to remake it as a live action feature - until, that is,
they realise that this newest is not so much a remake, nor even a re-imagining, as
a case of going right back to the original novel, written by Yoshikaze Takeuchi,
which formed the starting point for Kon's stunning feature debut. Perfect Blue is a
strong and suspenseful thriller that will maintain its replay value, even after you
know "whodunit." Its collapsing layers of reality give it an intriguing puzzle quality.
You may think that an live action film cannot match animation for a good, scary
mystery. But thriller fans of all stripes are encouraged to check this one out.

Rei Hayakawa is a 31-year-old freelance reporter that's been troubled by a "voice"
in her head. And because of this, she's been suffering repeated insomnia,
bulimia, and alcoholism. One snowy day, Rei sees Okabe, a truck driver, while
she was looking for a bottle of alcohol in a convenience store and follows him.
She gets on Okabe’s truck and tells him, "I want to touch you." Okabe accepts Rei,
and the two hold each other. Feeling the "vibration" of the truck’s idling, Rei feels
peace of mind that apparently comes from being embraced by him. At dawn, Rei
says, "Take me with you," and the truck heads for Niigata from Tokyo...
